"Used on the reverse of this strong shopping bag made for granddaughter from a Moda panel print of the USA states. Buttons mark which states she’s set foot in (x3 more had to be added after this photo was taken!) The orange bag holds spare buttons for her to add after returns with the bag to Boulder after Christmas."

Quilts by Vanessa Reynolds
Montpellier Quilters' First Group Quilt
These photos, very kindly brought out by Sally-Ann Douglass, show the very first quilt every made by the newly formed Montpellier Quilters.
The quilt was entirely hand appliqued and hand quilted.
Rita Humphry was in charge of the quilting and made the group "do lots" until it was quilted within "an inch of its life"!
On taking the quilt to show at a Regional Meeting, when the back of the quilt was shown it received an ovation.
The photos show early group members with the quilt.
Holding the quilt on the left-hand side is Joan Hunt, on the right is Barbara Madams.
Right to left at the front is Maggie Turpin, Rita Humphry and Sally-Ann Douglass with Janet White in the centre.
On the extreme left is Peggy Readings with Betty Foster next to her.
Janet White has found this photo showing quilters hard at work on the unfinished quilt. They are, left to right, Sally-Ann, Rita, possibly Joanna (Sally-Ann's daughter) and Betty Foster.
A closer look at some of the blocks and the quilting.
The quilt was purchased by one of the group for the sum of £200 which "paid for the materials and a bit more". It was bought to give as a present to a daughter-in-law.
Sadly the quilt no longer exists. Although Sally-Ann has these two templates for the original blocks together with swatches of the fabric used.
