We enjoy making quilts as a group which are then raffled for charity. Here are some examples
The first quilt we made, organised by Margaret Steventon, was a Maple Leaf design and was donated to Saraid.
Members brought along fabrics in bright autumnal colours to our meeting where Margaret demonstrated how to create the basic Maple Leaf unit. We then constructed our units and these were arranged in a pleasing pattern. We then took blocks home to sew into rows. Margaret pieced the quilt together and the borders were sewn on. The quilt was layered up and stretched at a later meeting. Members then took turns with the quilting and finally the binding was added.
The second was a Snowflake quilt, with the snowflakes designed by our members - it was donated to Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.
This quilt-as-you-go quilt was made during several meetings using fabrics purchased by the group. In the first session members were asked to design a snowflake template and then we voted for our 6 favourite designs. In the next session we made up the winning blocks. The third session was spent quilting the blocks and in the final session we pieced together blocks and sashing to make rows. Finally the borders were added and quilted and then the quilt was bound.
The Olympic Quilt
This large quilt has been made for the 2012 Olympics and was handed over to one of the competing countries. We also made small banners which were given to competitors.
Janet White sent this photo with this added information:
"This Drunkard's Patch quilt was made in the late 80s. The Drunkard's Path quilt was made in the late 80s I think . Left to right the quilters (in the guest room of my previous house) were Maggie Turpin, Vi Burns (think the name is right), Marjorie Thomson (who died in 2012 aged 101) and Barbara Madams. When raffled it was won by the mother of one of our members but I don't know where it is now."

A quilt made from Japanese materials owned by Rita Humphry.
The quilt was made using fabrics given to Rita Humphry (a founder member) when she was exhibiting her work in Japan. We decided to use them to make a quilt. The finished quilt was given to the Friends of Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, to be used to raise funds for the new building project.
Sally-Ann oversaw the construction of our charity quilt this year (2012) which was made entirely of silk. The quilt was given to the Mayor to help raise money for the Mayor's Charity Auction. The auction raised a total of £2000 which was shared between YMCA Cheltenham, National Star College and St Vincent's & St Georges. It would appear that the only photo we have of the quilt was taken using a mobile phone and so the picture quality is not really good enough for a website but it does give an idea of how beautiful the quilt was. (If you have a better photograph of this quilt we would love a copy for this page, please.)
