Blogger for the Brownies: Ann-Marie Nixon
Montpellier Quilters very kindly ran a workshop for the Brownies and Guides of Hatherley District on Saturday 21st September. Eighteen Brownies and Guides attended and spent a very busy 3 hours learning lots of new skills making their owls. With guidance the girls cut out the pattern, and then chose the fabrics that they wished to use. After ironing, pinning and cutting the fabric, the girls then learnt how to use the sewing machine as well as how to tack materials together and how to make Suffolk puffs for the eyes.
The youngest girl had only been at her brownie pack for two weeks and needed a little more help than the older guides, but all girls had a complete owl to take home, with a mad rush in the last half hour that saw the older girls helping the younger ones to complete their owls.

It was a really enjoyable, if very busy morning, with girls mixing from several local packs and ages. All seemed to go away happy and tired, with the youngest Brownie stating ‘how can it still be morning when I feel so tired?’ !
A huge thank you must be given to Gill and her team from Montpellier Quilters for arranging and running the session, and for providing all the material and equipment as well as their time for free. Thank You.
